Muslim Law Board Moves Supreme Court Against Waqf Bill

New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has approached the Supreme Court challenging the recently introduced Waqf Repeal Bill, alleging that it infringes upon the fundamental rights of the Muslim community and violates constitutional provisions safeguarding minority rights.

In its petition, the Board has argued that the bill, which seeks to dissolve various Waqf Boards across the country and transfer their properties to the government, undermines the centuries-old religious and charitable institutions established for the welfare of Muslims. It has further claimed that the bill was passed without adequate consultation with stakeholders and minority representatives.

Senior advocates representing the AIMPLB emphasized that the Waqf properties are protected under personal law rights and any interference would amount to a direct violation of Articles 25, 26, and 30 of the Constitution, which guarantee religious freedom and protection of minority institutions.

The petition has sought an immediate stay on the implementation of the Waqf Bill, urging the apex court to declare it unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court is expected to hear the plea in the coming days. Meanwhile, the development has triggered strong reactions across various sections of the Muslim community, with calls for nationwide protests if the bill is not revoked.
