‘Second-Class Citizens’: Rahul Gandhi Accuses Government of Neglecting Marginalised Communities in Poll-Bound Bihar

April 7, 2025 | Patna

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged that marginalised communities in Bihar are being treated like “second-class citizens” ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Speaking at a rally in Patna, Gandhi criticized the state and central governments, accusing them of failing to address the needs of Dalits, backward classes, and minorities.

“The poor, Dalits, and backward communities are being pushed aside. They are treated as if they don’t matter — like second-class citizens,” Gandhi said, addressing a crowd of supporters.

He further claimed that the ruling parties were focused only on consolidating votes and ignoring real issues like unemployment, inflation, and social justice. “Development is being promised, but in reality, only a select few are benefiting,” he added.

Bihar, a politically crucial state, will witness multi-phase polling starting later this month. Gandhi’s remarks come as the Congress party ramps up its campaign efforts, seeking to regain lost ground in the state.

Responding to Gandhi’s allegations, BJP leaders dismissed the claims as “desperate attempts” to stay relevant. Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nityanand Rai said, “The people of Bihar are smart. They have not forgotten the Congress party’s own track record of neglect.”

With political temperatures rising, the battle for Bihar is expected to intensify in the coming days, with both national and regional parties vying for the support of marginalised communities.
