Saudi Arabia Declares End of Ramadan: Eid-ul-Fitr to Be Celebrated on March 30 Across Gulf

Riyadh, March 30, 2025 07:50 – Saudi Arabia has officially announced the sighting of the Shawwal crescent, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. As a result, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across the Gulf region on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

Saudi Arabia Confirms Moon Sighting

The Kingdom’s Supreme Court confirmed that the crescent moon was sighted on the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025, signifying the completion of Ramadan and the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal. The announcement came after moon-sighting committees across the country verified reports from observers.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) released an official statement, saying, “The blessed month of Ramadan has come to an end with the sighting of the Shawwal crescent. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques extends his congratulations to all Muslims worldwide on the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.”

Gulf Nations Follow Suit

Following Saudi Arabia’s declaration, several other Gulf nations, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, have also confirmed that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Sunday, March 30. Authorities in these countries have made arrangements for special Eid prayers, public celebrations, and community gatherings.

In the UAE, the Moon Sighting Committee confirmed the announcement, urging residents to prepare for the Eid celebrations. The government has also declared official public holidays for both the public and private sectors, allowing families to come together for the festivities.

Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations and Traditions

Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the most significant Islamic festivals, marks the end of a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and self-reflection. The day begins with special Eid prayers held at mosques and open prayer grounds, followed by festive meals, gift-giving, and acts of charity (Zakat al-Fitr) to support those in need.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia and across the Gulf have implemented security measures to ensure smooth Eid celebrations, with increased public transport services and special arrangements at mosques to accommodate large gatherings for prayers.

Global Impact and Moon Sightings in Other Countries

While the Gulf countries will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on March 30, many Muslim-majority nations, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Morocco, are expected to conduct their own moon-sighting efforts. If the crescent moon is not visible on Saturday in these regions, Eid may be observed a day later, on Monday, March 31.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has extended its greetings to the Muslim world, emphasizing the importance of unity, peace, and generosity during this blessed occasion.

As millions of Muslims across the Gulf prepare to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, the festive spirit of joy, gratitude, and togetherness is set to bring families and communities together. With the declaration from Saudi Arabia, the celebrations will officially begin, marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of a new month filled with blessings and renewed faith.

The Gulf region is expected to see bustling markets, family gatherings, and cultural festivities as Muslims embrace the spirit of Eid. Authorities have urged the public to remain mindful of safety regulations and to celebrate responsibly.

Eid Mubarak to all!
